performance

The comparison between PS5 and Xbox Series X performance is challenging due to the lack of specialized equipment for precise resolution and frame rate measurements. Qualitatively comparing games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition revealed nuances between the consoles. PS5 showcased impressive load times, significantly faster for initial game startup and fast travel compared to Xbox Series X. While gameplay-wise, both consoles ran Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at 4K 60 frames per second, exhibiting negligible differences in animation fluidity and lighting, with a slightly more noticeable texture pop-in on the Xbox Series X. Devil May Cry 5 displayed similar performance between the two consoles, with Xbox Series X demonstrating slightly richer ray tracing, notably in lighting contrasts and smoother performance in the 120 fps mode, as confirmed by Digital Foundry. However, evaluating performance is complex as these games were designed for PS4 and Xbox One, making direct comparisons challenging. Despite this, both consoles perform exceptionally well, with the PS5 showing slightly shorter loading times, leading to a subjective winner: PS5.

design

The opinion highlights personal preferences in console design, particularly criticizing the PS5 for its large, asymmetrical, and fingerprint-prone design, along with difficulties in configuration and button identification. While the newly-announced PS5 Slim is smaller, it also lacks an appealing design. Conversely, the Xbox Series X, though bulky, is praised for its sleek black box appearance, resembling a small tower PC, with clear buttons and efficient space management. Despite the PS5 offering a USB-C port advantage, the Xbox Series X design is deemed more conservative yet sensible, leading to the subjective winner being the Xbox Series X.
